The Mental Health Media Awards are a key tool in challenging the negative portrayal of people with mental health conditions in Great Britain. Unfortunately, far too much media coverage of mental health reinforces ill conceived stereotypes. The winners of these awards are challenging these stereotypes and are contributing a world where people with mental health conditions can play a full, positive role in society.

Comic Relief prides itself on communicating serious issues in an accessible and engaging way and we are proud to be sponsoring Single TV Drama & Serial TV Drama. The volume and quality of entries is a testament to the importance of this event, and the programmes short listed have all made a valuable contribution to breaking down the stigma surrounding mental distress.

That's why we're proud to work with Mental Health Media to recognise the achievements of broadcasters who have made the effort to address these issues in what can be a challenging environment.

Good quality news coverage of mental health issues is so important.  It can make all the difference by raising awareness of injustices and challenging prejudices.  SCMH is proud to sponsor the TV and radio news category and to recognise those in the media who go the extra mile and get it right.
